The secret to antibody diversity lies in DNA loops
In a new Nature Communications paper, an MSU team led by MGI Assistant Professor Yu Zhang reveals distinct roles for the chromosome-organizing proteins STAG1 and STAG2 in antibody-gene assembly. STAG2 prevents DNA from forming oversized loops too soon, while STAG1 enables the long-range interactions needed to assemble antibody genes.
